Service Design

Challenge

Through guided walks, nighttime observations, and intercept interviews with residents, business owners, and local law enforcement, we uncovered how stories about safety shaped movement. Mapping these perceptions exposed a gap between felt and actual safety, particularly around Parque Nacional.

Solution

We designed La Mezcla, a service connecting local restaurants and residents under Costa Rica’s new Open Air Commerce Law. By providing permitting support, modular infrastructure, and a QR-based ordering system, La Mezcla transforms underused parks into vibrant outdoor dining spaces.

Result

La Mezcla demonstrated how service design can reframe mobility as connection, using food and shared experience to regenerate community trust and activate public space.
